    More About Furniture Assembly

Local moving help, explained in detail

Most large furniture in a modern home was built in place. It was carried in flat-packed, assembled in the bedroom, and has never needed to come back out whole. Moving house is when that becomes a problem.

A king-size bed frame won't clear most internal doorways. A double wardrobe on a Victorian staircase can't come down in one piece. Large corner desks, tall bookshelves and big dining tables all cause the same issue in tight terraces, narrow flats or houses with awkward stair layouts.

Flag the items when you book. The driver works through the disassembly before loading, keeps all the fittings and hardware together during transport, and rebuilds at the destination. A bed each way adds roughly 30 to 45 minutes. A wardrobe adds more. Two or three pieces at each end can add a couple of hours to the job total. None of that changes the hourly rate. You're just booking more time.

Standalone assembly is also available through this service, though it's secondary to the move use case. The flat-pack order has arrived. Book a medium van and add realistic time. A driver shows up with standard Allen keys and screwdrivers and works through the boxes.

A bed is roughly an hour. A wardrobe runs closer to 90 minutes. A full bedroom tends to take half a day. Most UK retail brands are covered: IKEA, Argos, Wayfair, John Lewis, Habitat, Made, Dunelm, B&Q. Brand-specific fittings are usually inside the flat-pack box, so have those to hand when the driver arrives.

For anything with unusual hardware or a complex mechanism — specialist sliding-door systems, custom bunks, unconventional builds — share the assembly guide with the driver before booking so they can confirm it's something they can handle.

A common flat-pack booking: collect from a retail store, deliver to your home, assemble on site. IKEA's delivery service drops boxes at your front door without bringing them in or building anything. The TVMC version covers all three steps.

Pick a Luton van for a full bedroom or living-room haul. Flat-pack boxes take up a lot of space when there's a wardrobe, a bed and a chest of drawers in the load. The booking covers the round trip from the driver's base to the store to your home, plus loading at the store, unloading and the build time. For a full bedroom, half a day is usually enough. Trying to compress it into 90 minutes is where overage charges come from.

Furniture Assembly — Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about this service

    8 FAQs
Can you take furniture apart as part of a house move?

Yes. Flag the items in your booking and add the disassembly time to your loading estimate. The driver works through them at pickup before loading, keeps the hardware together during transport, and rebuilds at the new place. Beds, wardrobes, dining tables, large desks and bookshelves are all common.

Which items usually need dismantling for a move?

Bed frames are the most common. King-size and super-king frames won't clear most internal doorways assembled. Double wardrobes on narrow staircases usually need to come apart. Large dining tables, corner desks and tall bookshelves cause the same problem in tight access. If you're unsure, flag the item in the booking and the driver will assess on arrival.

How much does disassembly and reassembly cost?

It's billed at the same hourly rate as the rest of the move. A bed each way adds roughly 30 to 45 minutes. A wardrobe adds more. Add honest time when you book and the total is straightforward.

    Do you bring the tools?

Standard tools — Allen keys, screwdrivers, tape — are carried by most drivers. For specialist or brand-specific fittings, have the tools from your flat-pack box ready on the day. They're usually included in the box.

Can I book assembly without a move?

Yes. Book a medium van and the time your build needs. A driver comes with tools, works through the flat-pack, and leaves.

Can you collect from IKEA and assemble at my home?

Yes. Driver collects from the store, delivers and assembles on site. A Luton van handles bigger orders with multiple boxes. Flag the assembly and collection address when you book.

    Which brands can you assemble?

The most-booked brands are IKEA, Argos, John Lewis, Habitat, Made, Wayfair, Dunelm, B&Q and Homebase. Most other UK retailers are also covered. For anything unusual, share the assembly guide with the driver before booking.

    How does payment work?

20% deposit to secure the booking when you confirm, the remaining balance is settled on the day.

Furniture Assembly Available Across the UK

Local drivers covering cities, towns, counties and regions

    259 areas

The most common context for a disassembly booking is a house move with tight access. Victorian terraces, narrow stairwells, top-floor flats, converted properties, period homes with small doorways. These are widespread across UK housing stock, and drivers across every region handle them regularly.

TVMC drivers cover disassembly and reassembly bookings across the UK: London and the wider South East, the Midlands, the North West, Yorkshire, the South West, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Same model whether the move is within a city, between cities, or out to a rural address.

For the flat-pack side, IKEA stores sit near most major cities: London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Sheffield, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Newcastle, Nottingham, Coventry and Exeter. Drivers cover the surrounding areas for collection-and-assembly bookings. For online retailers like Wayfair, Made, Dunelm and Habitat, the driver comes to your home and builds from the delivery already there. No store collection needed.

Furniture handled across both use cases: beds from singles to super-king, including ottoman storage and divan bases; double, sliding-door and fitted wardrobes; chests of drawers; dining tables; large and corner desks; bookshelves; sofas and sofa beds; TV units; cots and cot beds. Non-standard pieces worth flagging: specialist sliding-door systems, heavy antique furniture, custom-built items with unusual fittings.

Disassembly and reassembly bookings run throughout the week including weekends. Saturday is the most common moving day, and same-day slots do come up. The booking system shows availability for your postcode. Shorter routes tend to have more flexibility on timing.
