The Van Man Co. House Removals

Man and Van Services

The Van Man Co.

Man and van covers the broad middle ground. One driver with the right van, billed by the hour. Single items, Marketplace pickups, small flat moves, student runs, retail collections, business deliveries. You pay for the time the job takes.

The price comes from the driver’s hourly rate multiplied by total job time: round-trip route time plus loading and unloading. Put your postcodes into the booking system and you get an actual price upfront. Pick your driver from the list, confirm the booking, and pay a 20% deposit to secure the slot.

    More about Man and Van

Local moving help, explained in detail

Most single-item jobs work out cheaper than hiring a van and doing it yourself. You're not navigating parking outside a stranger's house or discovering halfway through that the sofa needs two people.

The booking works the same way as any other job. Enter the collection postcode and your drop-off postcode, whether that's a Currys store, a Facebook Marketplace address or an auction house. Add a loading time estimate and you get an instant price. Blankets, straps and securing gear are included. For larger items like American fridge-freezers, 3-seater sofas or wardrobes, pick a large van or a Luton over a medium.

Studios and 1-bed flats are typically one-driver-one-van jobs. A 2-bed flat usually needs a large van and sometimes a helper for stairs or heavy items. Beyond that, a dedicated removals team is usually the better option.

The booking form lets you add a helper if the job needs two pairs of hands. If you need beds or wardrobes dismantled and rebuilt, flag it in the booking so the driver allows time. For larger properties, our house removals form collects the details and gets you a quote from one of our removalists — a different process built for bigger jobs.

With the large national aggregator brands you often don't know who's arriving until the night before. The driver changes, the van changes. Quality is inconsistent.

The TVMC platform works the other way. When you enter your postcodes, you see a shortlist of local independent drivers, each with their own profile, hourly rate, van specs and review history. Pick the one you want, they confirm, and their profile is there to rebook directly. Return legs, repeat business runs, the next seasonal move. Rebooking the same driver skips the re-briefing and usually gets a faster confirmation.

Man and Van — frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about this service

    7 FAQs
How much does a man and van cost?

Rates start at £40/hr for a medium van, £40/hr for a large, and £40/hr for a Luton. The final price depends on your chosen driver, the round-trip route time, and your loading/unloading estimate. Enter your postcodes into our booking system for an instant price in seconds.

    How is the price calculated?

Price equals your driver's hourly rate multiplied by total time. Route time is the full round trip from the driver's base through your pickup and drop-off and back. Loading and unloading time is added on top. No separate mileage, fuel or callout charges.

What if the job overruns my estimate?

The extra time is billed at the same hourly rate you were quoted — no premium, no additional fees. The quote just extends by the overage.

Is there a minimum booking time?

Most drivers set their own minimum. It's shown in your instant quote before you confirm anything.

    What's included with every booking?

Van, driver, blankets, straps and securing gear, and light packing help on the day within your booked time. Helpers, professional packing and packing materials are available as add-ons — flag them when you book.

Can I pick my own driver?

Yes. Our booking system shows nearby drivers ranked by proximity and van-size fit. Review their profile and ratings, pick the one you want, send a request. Every driver has a permanent profile so you can rebook them directly for the next job.

    How does payment work?

You pay a 20% deposit to secure the booking when you confirm. The remaining balance is settled on the day of the job.

Man and Van available across the UK

Local drivers covering cities, towns, counties and regions

    259 areas

London is where most man and van jobs happen. The density of short-notice bookings across the inner boroughs is higher than anywhere else on the platform. Flat swaps in Hackney and Islington, Marketplace runs in Clapham and Battersea, IKEA collections out to the suburbs. Same-day slots come up regularly because more drivers are working the city at any given time.

Outside London, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Leeds are the four busiest cities by volume. Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield and Nottingham follow. Most mid-size UK cities have solid driver coverage through the network. Clean Air Zone pricing applies in Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield and Oxford. The booking system reflects it in the quote.

Rural and market-town coverage is strong wherever drivers are based locally. Cotswolds villages, the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, commuter-belt towns like Guildford, St Albans and Sevenoaks. Because drivers are already near the pickup, round-trip route time stays proportionate rather than inflating with a long dispatch leg.

For London bookings: ULEZ and the congestion charge zone are included in the route pricing. Residents’ parking restrictions and conservation-area access are worth flagging in the booking notes so the driver can plan accordingly.
