The Van Man Co. House Removals

Furniture to Storage Warehouse Transport

The Van Man Co.

The reason most people use this service is straightforward. Not enough room at home. A sofa that doesn’t fit the new layout. A wardrobe out of the spare room now that a baby’s on the way. Boxes from a parent’s house that need somewhere to go while you decide what to keep.

The driver comes to your home, loads what you’re putting into storage, and takes it to your chosen facility. You arrange the unit directly with the storage provider. TVMC handles the transport. Most runs fit a medium or large van. A Luton covers bigger loads or full-room clearances. Book realistic loading time and the total stays predictable.

    More about Warehouse Transport

Local moving help, explained in detail

The most common version of this booking is straightforward overflow. A growing family needs the spare room back. A renovation is starting and the living-room furniture needs to come out first. A house swap with a partner means two sets of furniture going into one place.

The driver loads at your home and delivers to your storage unit. You'll need to be there to let the driver in, or arrange access in advance. Most Safestore, Big Yellow and Shurgard sites have trolleys and lifts available on site. Loading time covers the work at both ends. A full room of furniture typically takes 45 to 90 minutes to load and unload. A few boxes and a sofa is quicker.

Renovation storage is a two-trip booking. The first takes the furniture out before work begins. The second brings it back when the room is ready. Both are booked the same way.

Most renovation jobs need the furniture out for a few weeks. Safestore, Big Yellow and Shurgard all offer short-term unit contracts, so the storage cost is manageable. The TVMC side of it is just the two transport legs. Book the outbound trip first, then book the return when you have a finish date. Using the same driver for both trips means no re-briefing about access, awkward items or building logistics.

Inherited furniture is a common reason for this booking. A parent or grandparent's home being cleared. Pieces worth keeping but no room for them yet. A decision to make later, once things are settled or a new place is found.

The driver collects from the family member's address and takes the items to storage. You don't need to be at the collection point yourself if someone else can give access. For larger clearances with multiple items across a property, a Luton with realistic loading time covers most of it. Multi-stop bookings work if items are coming from more than one address to the same storage unit.

Warehouse Transport — frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about this service

    8 FAQs
Can you take furniture to self-storage when I've run out of room at home?

Yes. That's the main use case for this booking. Book the van size that fits your load, add realistic loading time, and the driver takes your items to whichever storage facility you've arranged.

Do I need to arrange the storage unit myself?

Yes. TVMC handles the transport. You arrange the unit directly with Safestore, Big Yellow, Shurgard or whichever provider suits you. Once you have the unit, book the driver to do the run.

What van size do I need?

A medium van handles a few boxes and smaller pieces. A large van suits a mid-sized room load. A Luton covers full-room furniture, sofas and beds. The booking system shows all three sizes side by side with prices.

Can you also bring things back from storage when I need them?

Yes. Book a separate return trip when you're ready to retrieve items. If you used the same driver on the way in, rebooking through their profile keeps the arrangement consistent.

Can you pick up inherited furniture from a family member's address?

Yes. Give us the collection address and the storage facility address. Someone needs to be at the collection point to give access. Driver loads and delivers directly.

Which storage facilities do you work with?

Any facility you've arranged a unit with. Safestore, Big Yellow, Shurgard, Access Self Storage, Lok'nStore, Ready Steady Store and independents are all fine. The booking system doesn't restrict which provider you use.

Can you clear furniture out for a renovation and bring it back afterwards?

Yes. Two separate bookings: one to take the furniture out, one to bring it back. Both work the same way. Using the same driver for both runs means they already know the access and the items.

    How does payment work?

20% deposit to secure the booking when you confirm, the remaining balance is settled on the day.

Warehouse Transport available across the UK

Local drivers covering cities, towns, counties and regions

    259 areas

Furniture-to-storage transport runs across the UK through the same driver network as every other TVMC service. The booking works wherever you are: home postcode in, storage facility postcode in, van size selected, done.

Major self-storage chains covered include Safestore, Big Yellow, Shurgard, Access Self Storage, Lok’nStore and Ready Steady Store, plus most independent operators. The highest concentrations of sites are in and around London (the M25 corridor has more than 100 facilities across the inner suburbs and commuter belt), Manchester, Birmingham and the wider West Midlands, Bristol and the Severnside corridor, Leeds, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Most mid-sized market towns now have at least one independent self-storage operator alongside the chains.

The reasons people use this service cover a lot of ground. A growing family needing the spare room back. A renovation starting and the furniture coming out first. A parent’s house being cleared with pieces worth keeping. A relationship ending and belongings being split across two addresses. A downsize in progress with items in limbo until the new place is sorted. Seasonal storage for garden furniture, ski gear or bulk Christmas decorations. All of these fit the same booking model.

A medium van covers most smaller runs: a few boxes, a couple of chairs, a bookcase. A large van handles a mid-sized room load. A Luton covers full-room furniture including sofas, wardrobes and beds. For jobs with more volume than a single Luton load, booking two trips on the same or different days covers the rest. The booking system handles all van sizes and shows prices side by side.
