A Luton van is the largest standard man and van vehicle, and it fits the contents of a typical 2-bedroom flat or a small 3-bedroom house.
It has around 18m³ of usable space. That’s enough room for a 3-piece sofa set, double bed and mattress, wardrobe, dining table and four chairs, fridge-freezer, washing machine, and a good stack of boxes, with space left for the driver to pack tidily rather than wedge things in.
Most Lutons are built as 3.5 tonne vehicles, which means you can drive one on a standard car licence. How much weight a particular Luton can carry varies by model, and the figures are on the plate fitted to the van (GOV.UK explains how vehicle weights work).
For a larger 3-bedroom house with full contents, you’ll often need either two trips or a 7.5-tonne lorry. Stacking matters: heavy and rigid items go at the front (against the cab wall), lighter items toward the rear doors.
With The Van Man Co, a Luton is the XL option. You’ll see it alongside the Medium and Large vans when you get a man and van quote in Bristol or anywhere else in the UK. There’s more on the vehicle itself in what a Luton van is, and if you’re not sure a Luton is the right size, our guide on what size van you need for moving compares all three.
Get a quote for furniture transport and the van will be sized to your inventory.
