    More about Object Moves

Local moving help, explained in detail

Gym equipment is the single most common booking in this service. Customers buy a treadmill or rowing machine online. The delivery driver leaves it at the front door. Then comes the realisation that an 80kg box can't go up a flight of stairs alone. A 30 to 45 minute booking with a helper solves it.

The same applies to multi-gyms, weight stacks and exercise bikes. Heavier units sometimes need to be partially disassembled to get through doorways or up tight stairwells. The driver assesses on arrival and breaks the unit down only where the build allows it. Most equipment is designed to come apart for transport and reassemble in place.

Bring the original manual or assembly guide if you have it. Most drivers can work without one, but for unusual or older units the documentation saves time on the build-up at the destination.

Decorating projects often hit a point where the furniture has to move and the homeowner can't shift it alone. A sofa, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a heavy bed frame. The work can't start until they're out of the way, and they're heavy enough that DIY usually involves at least one bumped corner or scratched floor.

A two-person team handles this in 30 to 60 minutes. Items lifted from the room, placed somewhere out of the way like the hallway or another room or a temporary garage spot, and returned when the work is done. The driver brings blankets and floor protection so the temporary parking spot doesn't take damage either.

For shorter jobs the same booking can cover both legs. Move out, decorate, move back, all on the same hourly rate billed for actual time used. Longer projects work better as two separate bookings.

Plenty of help-needed jobs aren't about transport at all. A BBQ that needs carrying from the front of the house to the back garden through a side path. A washing machine being repositioned in a utility room after plumbing work. A garage clear-out where heavy items need shifting around to make space. A storage unit visit where what you're storing is heavier than what you can lift alone.

The booking works the same way. A driver and a helper arrive in the van with their kit, do the lift or the shift, and bill the time it takes. The job often comes in under an hour, and the minimum booking time still applies as set by each driver.

For one-person jobs that just need muscle rather than the two-person team, mention this when booking. Some drivers will take the job solo at a lower total cost if the item is manageable for one person with the right kit.

Object Moves — frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about this service

    8 FAQs

    How much does this cost?

It uses the standard hourly model. A medium van runs from £40/hr, a large van from £40/hr. Add a helper for around £15-20/hr on top, depending on the driver. Most single-object jobs come in well under £100 total.

Can you move a treadmill or multi-gym upstairs for me?

Yes. This is one of the most common bookings in this service. A two-person team handles a typical home treadmill in 30 to 45 minutes including any partial disassembly needed to get through doorways.

Do I need transport between addresses or can the booking just be at one place?

Either works. If the item is staying at the same address and just needs to move within the home, the booking still uses the hourly rate but most of the time is spent at one place. The van turns up because that's where the kit is.

What's the difference between this and a small furniture or bulky item move?

Bulky item moves are about transporting one large piece from address A to address B. This service is about the muscle and the kit to handle a heavy or awkward object, whether it goes anywhere or stays put. The two overlap and the right choice depends on whether you need transport or just help.

Can you help me load my own van or trailer?

Yes. A driver and helper coming to your address and loading your van for you is a fine use of this booking. Same applies to unloading at the other end if you've driven the items yourself.

What if I only need one person, not two?

Mention it when booking. Some drivers will take a one-person muscle job at the standard hourly rate without an extra helper charge.

Are there items you won't move?

A few things sit outside the day-to-day scope. Very heavy items requiring specialist equipment, very high-value items needing dedicated specialist handling, and anything the driver decides on arrival isn't safe to move with the available kit. For ordinary household items, the answer is yes.

    How does payment work?

20% deposit on confirmation. Balance settled with the driver on the day, billed on the actual time the job takes.

Day-to-day moving help runs UK-wide through the same driver network as the rest of the platform. Most drivers handle these jobs regularly because they’re some of the most reliable bookings on the system. Short jobs, clear scope, finished in well under a working day.

Gym equipment moves are the highest-volume booking type in this category. Treadmills account for most of those, with multi-gyms and rowing machines making up much of the rest. Every major city has drivers experienced with the typical model ranges and the access challenges of British housing stock. Victorian staircases and narrow Edwardian hallways are common, along with the awkward modern flat layouts where doorway angles get tight.

Furniture repositioning during decoration is the second-most-common booking. Spring and early summer see the volume peak as customers tackle redecoration projects. Sofas and wardrobes are the most-moved items, with bed frames and chests of drawers close behind. Most jobs come in under an hour.

Single-item muscle jobs cover the long tail of awkward objects that need a second pair of hands. Garage clear-outs, storage unit visits, BBQs carried through tight side paths, washing machines repositioned after plumbing work. These bookings are short and predictable, and most drivers welcome them as efficient hours.

Pricing is the same as any other man and van booking. Hourly rate for the van and driver, optional helper rate on top, billed for the time the job actually takes. No minimum routes. Weekend and evening jobs run at the same rate.
