    More About Long Distance Moves

Local moving help, explained in detail

London to Manchester is about 4 hours of route time on the M1 and M6. Edinburgh to London is closer to 7 or 8 hours on the A1. Add loading and unloading at each end and you have the full job time.

Getting the van size right matters more than most people realise. Two trips in a medium van usually costs more than one trip in a Luton, because the round-trip route doubles both times. The booking system shows all three sizes side by side so you can compare before confirming. The driver loads at your address, drives the route, and unloads at the destination with no handoff to a regional partner along the way.

A full house relocation across the UK is usually beyond a single-van booking. Moving a 3-bed-plus property from Bristol to Manchester, or London to Edinburgh, means a 2-man or 3-man removals crew with multiple vans.

For these moves, use the house removals form. It collects the property details, destination address and access notes, and one of the removalists comes back with a quote. Removals bookings run as half-day or full-day slots. Half-days go up to 4 hours, full days up to 8. For very long routes, a full-day slot plus an overnight split between loading day and unloading day is the usual approach. If the job overruns, overtime is £90/hr for a 2-man team or £120/hr for a 3-man team.

A 100-mile motorway run is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours of route time. Per-mile pricing adds a distance charge on top of the hourly rate, which makes the total harder to read upfront. Route-time keeps it as one number.

Most inter-county moves fit a single-van booking. Bristol to Birmingham, Leeds to Manchester, London to Cambridge. Standard man and van jobs, priced in seconds through the booking system. Where the volume needs a crew rather than a single driver, the house removals form handles the quote.

Long Distance Moves — Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about this service

    8 FAQs
How is a long-distance move priced?

Your driver's hourly rate multiplied by total job time — route time plus loading and unloading. Route time covers the full round trip from the driver's base through your pickup, to your drop-off, and back. There's no separate per-mile surcharge, fuel fee or distance premium. Put both postcodes into the booking system for an instant price.

Which UK routes do you cover?

All of mainland UK. England, Scotland and Wales. London to Manchester, Edinburgh to London, Bristol to Glasgow, Cornwall to north Scotland. Basically anywhere on the mainland. Northern Ireland isn't in the booking system.

Is the same driver with me from start to finish?

Yes. One driver, one van, pickup to drop-off. No transfers between regional teams, no unloading mid-route. Everything loaded at your address arrives at the destination on the same van.

How long does a long-distance move take?

London to Manchester is about 4 hours. Glasgow to London runs 7 or 8. South coast to north Scotland is 9 to 10. Add loading and unloading at each end for the full job time.

Will the driver need to stay overnight on very long routes?

On very long hauls, Scotland to the South West for instance, drivers often split across two days. The driver confirms any overnight arrangement before you lock the booking in.

What van size do I need for a long-distance move?

Volume matters more than distance. A 1-bed flat usually fits a large van. A 2-bed generally needs a Luton. Anything bigger is a removals job rather than a man and van booking. The booking system shows all sizes side by side so you can compare before committing.

Do you cover moves between England, Scotland and Wales?

Yes. Mainland UK is one coverage area. Any combination of England, Scotland and Wales books through the same system.

    How does payment work?

20% deposit to secure the booking when you confirm. The remaining balance is settled on completion of the move.

Most long-distance bookings on the platform are London-related. Someone leaving the city, someone arriving. That pattern runs all year. Job changes, university starts, retirement moves to the coast or countryside. London to Manchester and London to Edinburgh are the two most booked long routes. London to Bristol and Birmingham fill out the top five. Reverse direction is just as common.

Outside the London corridors, cross-country routes fill the rest of the map. Manchester to Edinburgh on the M6 and M74, Bristol to Birmingham on the M5, Liverpool to Leeds on the M62. Cardiff to London, Newcastle to Edinburgh. All standard bookings, priced the same way as any local job.

A lot of single-van bookings fall in the inter-county range. Bristol to Birmingham, Leeds to Manchester, London to Cambridge. Roughly 50 to 150 miles. Fast enough on the motorway that route time stays manageable, close enough that an overnight split isn’t needed. These tend to work out cheaper than most people expect because motorway hours are quick hours.

Driver coverage runs across mainland UK. Every major region has drivers on the network. Bookings are matched to a driver at one end of the route, so there’s no wasted journey before the job starts. For 3-bed-plus full-property relocations, the house removals form gets a quote from the removals team with a multi-van crew.
