Do You Need a Parking Permit to Move House in Manchester?

In most of Manchester you don’t need a parking permit to move house, but inside the city’s residents’ parking zones (RPZ) and central permit areas you do.

Manchester’s RPZs cover the Northern Quarter, Castlefield, parts of Salford Quays, Hulme, Chorlton, and Didsbury. If your pickup or drop-off is inside one, apply for a temporary bay suspension or removal permit through Manchester City Council at least 10 working days in advance. The cost is around £50–£60 per bay per day.

On non-RPZ streets, loading on a single yellow line is usually fine for a reasonable time, unless kerb markings show a loading ban. Always check the signs and lines before the driver arrives.

Booking a Manchester man and van means your driver will know which areas need permits and which don’t.
