    More About Local Moves

Local moving help, explained in detail

Cross-town moves are the most common job type on the platform. Swapping flats in the same area, downsizing to a smaller place nearby, moving in with a partner across the city. Short distances, modest loads, finished in a few hours.

Route time drives the price, so short routes mean low totals. A 3-mile move with a quick loading time typically comes in well under £100 for a medium van. The booking system shows the price before you confirm. Postcode in, price out, no callback. If there are several stops in the same area, a charity drop-off or a storage unit on the way, set them all as addresses in the booking and the driver works through them in order.

Rural and in-county moves get awkward when the booking goes through a national aggregator. Drivers dispatched from the nearest big city can spend an hour each way getting to and from a village pickup, and the round-trip pricing balloons.

TVMC's network includes drivers based in market towns and rural areas, not just the major city hubs. A move from a Cotswold village to another in the same county, or between two Yorkshire Dales market towns, is priced on the actual driver-to-pickup route, which is often only a few miles. Narrow lanes, single-track roads and limited parking are part of the day-to-day for rural drivers. Flag any access concerns in the booking notes and the driver will plan around them.

Local moves are the most flexible on timing because the route is short. A driver finishing a job mid-morning often has time for a second short run the same day. Enter your pickup and drop off postcodes, select a driver with the right van size and then your preferred time and date to make the booking.

Last-minute end-of-tenancy moves, urgent flat changes, single-item Marketplace pickups. All standard short-notice jobs. The shorter the route, the more likely a same-day slot exists. For weekend slots, booking a couple of days ahead opens more options than the last-minute window.

Local Moves — Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about this service

    8 FAQs
What is as a local or in-county move?

Most moves under roughly 50 miles, or staying within the same county. There's no fixed mileage threshold. Every job is priced on actual route time, so a 3-mile move and a 40-mile move use the same formula, just with different totals.

Is a local move cheaper than a long-distance one?

Usually yes. Route time is the biggest factor in the price, so shorter journeys cost less. A typical 1-bed local move comes in well under £100 if loading is quick.

How quickly can I book a local move?

Same-day and next-day slots are often available. Enter your postcodes and the booking system shows which drivers near your pickup are free.

Do you cover moves between villages or small towns?

Yes. Local drivers based in your county handle village-to-village moves, market-town runs and rural routes. Because the driver is already nearby, the round-trip route stays proportionate.

Can I move to a new address on the same street?

Yes. Very short moves still need a van, blankets, straps and a driver who can handle heavy items safely. The hourly billing means the total comes in low. Short route plus quick loading and it's usually the cheapest job type on the platform.

What van size do I need for a local move?

Same as any move — medium or large for a studio or 1-bed, large for most 2-beds, Luton for a 3-bed property. The short distance doesn't change the volume of stuff being moved.

Can I split the booking with someone else moving in the same area?

Yes. The booking form supports multiple pickups and drop-offs. Useful for flat-shares splitting up or two friends moving on the same day in the same area.

    How does payment work?

20% deposit to secure the booking when you confirm, the remaining balance is settled on the day.

Local Moves Available Across the UK

Local drivers covering cities, towns, counties and regions

    259 areas

London has the most local move bookings on the platform by volume. Flat swaps across Hackney, Islington, Clapham and Wandsworth, end-of-tenancy runs in the outer boroughs, downsizing moves out to Surrey, Essex and Hertfordshire. Same-day driver availability is also highest in London, because more drivers are working the city on any given day.

After London the busiest cities are Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol and Leeds. Manchester drivers cover the city, Salford, Didsbury, Chorlton and the satellite towns. Birmingham runs across Edgbaston, Moseley, Harborne and the Jewellery Quarter. Bristol covers Clifton, Redland and Bedminster with regular cross-county runs into Bath. Edinburgh and Glasgow are the Scottish hubs with solid coverage across the Lothians and Clyde Valley.

County coverage outside the cities runs through the commuter-belt counties in the South East, the Midlands across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, the North West through Lancashire and Cheshire, and the South West down through Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Wales has drivers across Cardiff and the South Wales valleys, with coverage into Powys and North Wales. Every county has driver availability through the network.

Rural moves are in scope wherever a driver is based locally. The pricing stays proportionate because the driver isn’t travelling far to reach the pickup. Flag any access issues in the booking notes: narrow lanes, parking restrictions, conservation-area streets. The driver accounts for it before the job starts.
