Do You Need a Parking Permit to Move House in Bristol?

In most of Bristol you don’t need a special parking permit to move house, but inside a residents’ parking zone (RPZ) you do.

Bristol’s RPZs cover Cotham, Redland, Clifton, Kingsdown, Montpelier, Bedminster, and most central neighbourhoods. If your pickup or drop-off is inside one, apply for a temporary bay suspension or moving permit through Bristol City Council at least 5 working days in advance. The cost is typically £25–£40 per bay per day.

On non-RPZ streets you can usually load and unload on a single yellow line for a “reasonable time” — though kerb markings showing a loading ban override this rule. Double yellows with no kerb markings normally allow loading too.

Booking a Bristol man and van means your driver will know which streets need permits before you turn up.
