Fridges need careful handling because the compressor oil settles when the unit is tilted.
Unplug the fridge 24 hours before moving day so it defrosts properly, then clean and dry the inside to stop water pooling on the journey. Empty the drip tray at the back. Tape the doors shut with painter’s tape — it holds the seal without pulling paint off when you remove it — and take loose shelves out to wrap separately.
Move it upright on a sack barrow with straps. Never lay a fridge on its back or side. In the van, strap it against the wall and pack softer items around the base for stability.
After unloading, stand it upright for at least four hours before plugging in. A man and van with appliance experience handles all of this as standard.
