What is Loading Time?

Loading time is the part of a removal that covers the hands-on work at each end of the job: carrying items between the property and the van, fitting them in, securing the load, and then unloading at the destination. Together with route time, it makes up the two halves of a time-based quote.

What loading time includes:

  • Carrying items from each room to the van, including down stairs and along any shared paths or hallways.
  • Stacking and securing the load so nothing shifts in transit.
  • Unloading at the new address and placing items in the right rooms.

What changes loading time most:

  • Volume. More items mean more trips between the van and the door.
  • Access. Stairs, long carries, and poor parking all stretch the loading time. See restricted access.
  • Preparation. A home that is fully boxed and ready loads far faster than one still being packed when the van arrives.
  • Heavy or awkward items. Wardrobes, appliances and pianos take longer and may need a tail lift.

Separating loading time from route time is what makes a time-based quote fair. The customer pays for the actual work involved in their move, not a flat fee that ignores how easy or hard the job really is. It also rewards good preparation: the more ready a property is on the day, the lower the loading time.
