A removalist is a professional moving service that handles the whole job from packing through to placing furniture in the new home. The crew packs your belongings, dismantles furniture, loads the vehicle, drives to the new property, unloads, and usually reassembles. The vans are bigger, the team is larger, and the insurance cover is more substantial than what you’d get from a typical man and van. In UK usage, “removalist” and “removal company” mean the same thing.
The defining features:
- A multi-person crew. Usually two to four movers plus a driver. Heavy or fragile items get the manpower they need.
- Larger vehicles. A 7.5-tonne lorry or a Luton, not a 3.5-tonne Transit.
- Full service. Packing materials are supplied and the crew packs and unpacks as part of the quote.
- Goods in transit insurance. Cover is included in the price, normally up to a stated limit per item.
- A pre-move survey. Larger jobs get an in-home walkthrough (or a video survey) so the mover can estimate volume and confirm access before quoting.
A removalist is the right choice for a 3+ bedroom house move, anything with a lot of fragile or high-value items, or a long-distance job where you don’t want to spend the day driving and lifting yourself. For smaller jobs, single items, or flat moves with limited belongings, a man and van service tends to be quicker to book and more affordable.
The Van Man Co. offers both tiers. The right one for a given job depends on the property size, distance, and the inventory being moved.
